Master teachers at the vocational school no 8 in Karavan in Batken region in southern Kyrgyzstan. The schools teaches various agricultural trades such as irrigation, tractor operation, agribusiness. In May 2011, Kyrgyz government raised the salaries of teachers: an experienced teacher can earn now up to 400 US dollars. Yet, experts fear that after presidential elections on 30 October 2011, with the country’s deficit soaring, the state will have trouble sticking to its promises.
